Early Shanto Photo

This photo shows Sam on the left, probably Angelina in the middle, and Frances on the right. The photo was probably taken about 1912 or 1913 in Fort William. In the 1911 census, they were living in the East End.

Obituary for Antonio Shanto

This is the obit from the Fort William paper for Antonio Shanto. There are some interesting clues here. He died 23 March 1941. The obit says he was in Fort William 54 years, coming when he was 11 years old. That means he arrived in Fort William in 1887. It says he was 65, making him born in 1876. Of course these dates don't match other sources, but they are close. His baptism record has him born in 1877 and several years are given as his arrival into Canada on the census records. I suppose he could have lived in other places in Canada before arriving in Fort William.

A sister in Italy is mentioned. That would have been his older sister Rosaria. No mention is made of his sister Concetta who lived in Port Arthur, so I assume she died before him. The cousin mentioned is Frances Fasano, the daughter of Raffaele Fasano, his mother's brother. No mention is made of other relatives except his immediate children and grandchildren.

Marriage Record of Rosario Antonio Sdao and Anna Albo

Civil records began in Grimaldi in 1809, making this one of the earliest. The marriage was 1 November 1809. From the record we learn that Rosario was 27 years old, his father was Bruno and his mother Rosa Iachetta. Anna was 16 years old, her father was Antonio and her mother Rosaria Magnone.
Rosario and Anna were my great great great grandparents.
